General Miaja

This poster gives tribute to General Jose Miaja, head of the Madrid Defense Committee formed when the government abandoned the capital in November 1936; Miaja's portrait is on the left. The Madrid statue to the Greek goddess Cybele is pictured below. The woman's profile to Miaja's right probably evokes both the goddess Cybele and "La Nina Bonita" (the beautiful maiden), symbol of the Second Spanish Republic. The placement of the two profiles makes a symbolic couple of Miaja and La Nina Bonita.
